T5 Fluorescent Lighting![]() T5 fluorescent lighting is a relatively new option for your reef aquarium. T5 bulbs, at 5/8" diameter, are extremely thin as compared to the standard fluorescent tubes which are 1 1/2" diameter. Because of this slim profile, T5 fluorescent bulbs are much more efficient than standard fluorescent bulbs. They are considered high output (HO) bulbs and are easily available in sizes ranging from 24"(24 watt), 36"(39 watt) and 48"(54 watt). Most T-5 lighting systems come with built-in fans to remove the heat that develops in the hood. Another benefit with this type of lighting is the multitude of bulbs available with different wavelengths. Everything from actinic to pure white is available. This allows you to mix and match to achieve the perfect color. ![]() Because of the small 5/8" diameter of the T5 bulbs, you are able to get more lighting in a smaller area. This is a good thing for reef aquariums. Overall, T5 fluorescents are a good choice, if you need a lot of light intensity in a small or restricted area. I would place T5's in the mid to upper price range. Back to Efficient Reef Aquarium Lighting Exit T5 Fluorescent Lighting and Return to Homepage

I know that maintenance can become a chore and is easy to put off for another day. Please don't do this. Your tank inhabitants will thank you for keeping up with your schedule. Lighting

Research is the key to successIt may seem boring but if your desire is to build a great looking reef tank, you must spend some quality time researching.Take it slow and you will succeed.
