Reef Aquarium PestsReef aquarium pests are something just about everyone will encounter sooner or later. As you add more and more things to your tank chances are you will be faced with some form of troublesome pests. Commonly called hitch hikers, they are usually introduced to your tank on live rock, corals and livestock. Some of the more common pests you may come across are worms, algae, anemones, crabs, and shrimp. Other reef tank pests can appear when there is an issue with water quality, which is a very good reason to always keep on top of your water parameters. Regular testing and water changes will certainly be helpful in this regard. Many will only come out at night, so you may not know they are even there, until you see some of the damage they have been doing. It’s a good idea to look at your aquarium at night when it is dark. Use a flashlight with a red filter on it. You may be surprised at all the night life you find.
