Power Compact Fluorescent Lighting

power compact lighting

Power Compacts are a next generation fluorescent bulb. These systems utilize a twin-tube design. Actually they are a fluorescent tube that is bent in half. Consequently they achieve a much greater intensity with higher light outputs than your standard fluorescent lamps.

Tubes are availlable from 10 to 130 watts.

Their Kelvin ratings are from 5000k to 10000K and Actinic.

They usually last from 12 to 24 months.

This type of lighting system is alright for a reef aquarium that is not very deep. Also, they are not intense enough for SPS corals and most clams.

Although they are available in many shapes, by far the most common bulb shape used for aquarium lighting is the twin followed by the quad.

Overall, this type of lighting is a reasonably efficient lighting system.

Good things happen slow in a reef aquarium.

Maintenance

I know that maintenance can become a chore and is easy to put off for another day.

Please don't do this.

Your tank inhabitants will thank you for keeping up with your schedule.

Got an algae breakout?

Could be from old bulbs.

How long has it been since yours were replaced?

Research is the key to success

It may seem boring but if your desire is to build a great looking reef tank, you must spend some quality time researching.

Take it slow and you will succeed. Move too fast and you will run into trouble.
